Let’s Rally!

Granby Democrats are proud to announce a free public rally in support of reproductive freedom, set to take place on  July 7, 2024 at the Granby Town Green from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. This rally will bring together community members, activists, and leaders to stand united for the protection and advancement of reproductive rights and justice.

Attendees will hear from an inspiring lineup of speakers, including healthcare professionals, state and federal legislators, and influential community leaders, all dedicated to championing reproductive freedom. Speakers will address the importance and complex nature of reproductive care and reproductive rights, offering a broad perspective on the topics.

In the wake of recent judicial challenges and ongoing debates around reproductive health, advocacy, and justice, this rally will serve as a powerful platform for voices advocating for the right to choose and an educational opportunity for those who want to learn more through a local lens.

Event Details:

  • Date: July 7, 2024

  • Time: 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

  • Location: Granby Town Green, 50 Park Place, Granby, CT 06035

  • Admission: Free and open to the public

  • Dr. Marilyn Sanders, Neonatologist at CT Children’s Medical Center and lecturer on maternal health and Director of CT Perinatal Quality Collaborative

“Reproductive freedom is a fundamental human right, and it is crucial that we stand together to protect it,” said Lynn Guelzow, Chair of the Granby Democratic Town Committee. “This rally will bring together advocates, academics, physicians, elected leaders and many others to talk about the ways we can come together and defend our rights to reproductive freedom and justice.”

All community members, allies, and supporters are encouraged to attend and participate in this important event. Together, we can send a strong message that reproductive rights are essential, and we will not back down in our fight to uphold them.

Peggy Chapple to take over for Sally King on the Board of Selectman; Matt Peters taking over Peggy Chapple’s P&Z seat; Granby DTC recruiting for P&Z Alternate

Sally King (left), accepting an award of achievement from the DTC, joined by her husband and P&Z member Eric Lukingbeal and our newest member of the Board of Selectman, Peggy Chapple

At our Summer BBQ, the Granby Dems honored Sally King’s 29 years of service on the Board of Selectmen. Sally has contributed in many ways to Granby — not only on the Board of Selectmen, but in multiple other volunteer roles. Sally is best known for her devotion to Granby and her gorgeous therapy dogs that are popular at the schools, airport and assisted living facilities. A BIG thank you to Sally for all she has done for Granby.

Sally’s shoes will be hard to fill, but we think Peggy Chapple is up to the task. Peggy was formally sworn in and seated on the Board of Selectmen for her first meeting on August 1. Thank you, Peggy, for stepping up to the Board of Selectmen! Peggy was the most recent Vice Chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission. She held that seat for over 25 years and has served on numerous subcommittees.

Peggy’s seat on the Planning and Zoning Commission was filled by Matt Peters who had been the Alternate. Matt has served as Alternate for several years and is a great choice to take a permanent seat on P&Z as he is an active and passionate member, participating in and preparing for all meetings.

With all of this good news, we are left with a vacant seat as Alternate to P&Z. If you are interested in serving as an Alternate on Planning and Zoning, please contact the Granby Dems at granbydemocrats@gmail.com  We will be talking to interested candidates over the next several weeks. P&Z meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays every month. Information about P&Z can be found on the town website. https://www.granby-ct.gov/planning-zoning-commission

DTC Statement on Attack on the US Capitol

The Granby DTC is appalled by the brazen attack on American democracy that transpired in our nation’s capital on January 6th. We call upon all our elected officials, colleagues, neighbors, family and friends to condemn these efforts to divide our country, to condemn any support of a violent insurrection and any attempt to overturn a free and fair election, and condemn Donald Trump’s betrayal of the Constitution he swore an oath to protect.
